Schedule
A staff member of World Wild Africa Safari will pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From here you will be driven to Gran Meliá Arusha and briefed on your forthcoming safari. Enjoy a restful night before beginning your adventure tomorrow!
After breakfast at 8:30 a.m., your driver-guide will meet you at the hotel and drive you to Arusha National Park, arriving by 9:30 a.m. After registration, you'll be accompanied by an armed ranger for safety, and your driver-guide will take you through various routes based on the day's opportunities. Keep an eye out for zebra, duiker, giraffe, hippo, and the black-and-white colobus monkey. The park also features fascinating flora, like the strangler fig and acacia trees, as well as animals like warthog and buffalo. You might visit picturesque waterfalls, such as the 30-meter Tululusia Falls. After a walking safari, enjoy your lunch and continue exploring the park's diverse areas, including Mount Meru, the Momela Lakes, and the Ngurdoto Crater. Conclude your day with a return to Gran Meliá Arusha for dinner and a restful night.
You'll depart from Arusha after breakfast for a two-hour journey to Tarangire National Park, where you might see Maasai herdsmen along the way. Upon arrival, you'll begin your safari drive across the vast golden savannah surrounding the Tarangire River. Known as the 'Elephant Playground,' Tarangire hosts the largest population of elephants, as well as buffalo, lions, gnus, zebras, and gazelles. Keep an eye out for Tarangire specialties like kudu and oryx, and smaller creatures like the agama lizard and the hyrax. The park also features a rich birdlife, including lilac-breasted rollers and secretary birds, and is famous for its baobab trees and acacia woodland. After an extensive safari drive, you'll head to Lemala Mpingo Ridge Lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.
You will enjoy breakfast before departing Tarangire for Lake Manyara, a two-hour journey. Lake Manyara, characterized by its shimmering lake and rich vegetation, stretches along the Rift Valley Escarpment. Majestic pink flamingos wade in the shallow, alkaline waters, and over 400 bird species, including bee-eaters, hornbills, yellow-billed storks, and pink-backed pelicans, have been recorded here. The park's diverse environments, such as forests fed by the escarpment's waters, are home to monkeys, lions, giraffes, warthogs, and Cape buffalo. After an extensive safari drive and lunch, you'll continue to Karatu in the Ngorongoro Highlands. You will spend the night at Kitela Lodge, enjoying a full dinner.
After breakfast, you will set off for Serengeti National Park, a 166 km journey taking around 3 ½ hours. By late morning, you will reach Serengeti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the country’s oldest and most celebrated national park, and begin a safari drive. This park offers one of the best places on earth to see a vast variety of wildlife. Your driver-guide will share extensive knowledge about the flora and fauna as you spot lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, cheetahs, and antelopes. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery and changing light, taking memorable photos and soaking in nature's beauty. After the safari drive, you will be taken to Meliá Serengeti Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Waking up in the Serengeti is truly special, with the sights, sounds, and fresh smells of Africa aroma all around you. After breakfast, embark on a morning safari in Serengeti National Park, guided by your expert driver. Marvel at the stunning scenery, ever-changing light, and diverse wildlife, including the Seronera River and distinctive kopjes. These granite outcrops, aged at around 600 million years old, are frequented by lions, other cats, snakes, and hyraxes. Enjoy an unforgettable lunch in the bush before continuing your search for wildlife, such as lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, cheetahs, and antelopes. Look out for the magnificent Kori Bustard, the world’s heaviest bird capable of flying. End the day with dinner and rest at Meliá Serengeti Lodge.
Following breakfast, you will have a morning safari drive in the Serengeti, marveling at its abundant wildlife. The Seronera area, Central Serengeti's most popular spot, features year-round waterflow from the Seronera River, attracting a variety of animals like lions, hippos, and elephants. You might visit the Serengeti Visitor Center to learn about the park's ecosystem and conservation history, particularly the efforts of Bernhard Grzimek and the Frankfurt Zoological Society. After lunch, head southeast towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area, taking in the vast 'endless plains' of the Serengeti and passing the famous Simba Kopjes. Reach Naabi Hill Gate, where you can gather information, enjoy superb views, or spot a colorful agama lizard. Arrive at Ngorongoro Lion’s Paw Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
From your accommodation, you will set off after breakfast at 6 AM to reach the Ngorongoro Crater rim and then descend into the vast crater. One side features the Lerai Forest, a mountain forest landscape with almost tropical characteristics, which is good elephant country. Keep your eyes peeled for elephants, especially in the nearby swampland known as the ‘elephant graveyard,’ where old male tuskers come to chew soft grasses.
